CHARLES DICKENS’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL

I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book,to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put myreaders out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their housespleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant,C. D.
December, 1843.
CBC’s traditional series
of readings of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol will come to the islands this
Christmas. In a joint project between
Literacy Haida Gwaii and the QCI Arts Council, two readings will be held on the
first weekend of December. Russell
Bowers of CBC’s Daybreak North will participate in the readings, and local
readers and hosts will fill other parts of what promises to be a wonderful
dramatic evening with costumes, other entertainment (including Gwaii Choir and
Hands and Feet Performing Company), and a reception following the shows. The first show will be in Port Clements on
Friday, December 1 at 7:00 pm at the Port Community Hall, and the second will
be in Skidegate on Saturday, December 2 at 7:00 pm at the Skidegate Community
Hall. Tickets will cost $5, with
proceeds going to Literacy Haida Gwaii and QCI Arts Council for the benefit of island
communities.
We are very lucky to have
been picked for this year’s readings out of many requests from other British
Columbia communities. Mark your
calendars and watch for posters!
