Ivan
Coyote was born in Whitehorse General Hospital on August 11, 1969. It snowed
that day. In fact, it set a record for the earliest snowfall in the white man’s
recorded history of the Yukon Territory. She tells the story that her father
has been overheard saying he should have known on that day that something was
up, that he should have taken the unusual weather as a sign that his first-born
was going to be trouble.
Ivan loves playing music and combining her stories with the talents of guitarist Richard Spencer, flautist and bass player Luna Roth, go-go dancer and vocalist Shelley Frankenstein, and the prodigal abilities of songwriter and pianist Veda Hille. In the spring of 2003 she recorded her first CD, “You’re a Nation” with Richard, all about stories told with music instead of in spite of it. She says it was a labour of love.
Ivan Coyote came to the islands the weekend of April 11-13. Two shows were presented, on April 11 at the Green Church in Masset, and on April 12 at the Legion in Queen Charlotte.
A workshop, “Bootcamp for Procrastinators” was given on Sunday, April 13.
