§       JAMES MACKINNON

James MacKinnon is an acclaimed new writer of literary non-fiction.  His first book, Dead Man in Paradise  won the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction and was also the recipient of other nominations and awards.  Mr. MacKinnon is also the co-author of the recent book The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating, described as the “remarkable, amusing and inspiring adventures of a Canadian couple who made a year-long attempt to eat foods grown and produced within a 100-mile radius of their apartment.”  Alisa Smith and Mr. MacKinnon became well-known in 2007 for the attention this book gives to the concept of eating local, a movement which has enjoyed a lot of news coverage.

Mr. MacKinnon gave a reading on Dead Man in Paradise at the QCC Visitor Centre on August 4 at 7:30 pm.  Mr. MacKinnon and Ms. Smith participated in the annual Fall Fair at the Tlell Fairgrounds with an information booth set up 1:30 to 4:00 pm, and Mr. MacKinnon spoke to the audience about the 100-Mile Diet book.  MacKinnon/Smith also met with local food growers.
